     Tamilnadu Handloom Weavers′ Co-operative Society Ltd., popularly known as Co-optex, was established in 1935 and has a long and rich tradition in Handloom History that dates back over 80 years. Co-optex has a network of 200 showrooms spread all over India with an annual turnover of around Rs.1000 Crore. It is the No. 1 Apex Handloom Co-operative society in the country because of its talented, dedicated, highly skilled and devoted clan of Handloom Weavers from all over Tamilnadu. Its Logo-the multi-hued Butterfly is synonymous with quality, durability and fair trade.Handlooms in Tamilnadu have a long standing tradition and behind the timelessness of this tradition, kept alive for centuries, is the Handloom Weaver. He is the backbone of this large network of around 4.00 lakh Handlooms in Tamilnadu out of which around 2.00 lakh Handlooms are in Co-operative fold.
      
       Co-optex is basically engaged in marketing of Handloom fabrics produced in Tamilnadu. Handlooms constitute a priceless asset of Tamilnadu′s rich cultural heritage. These fabrics marketed by Co-optex, represent an aesthetic quality of high order and represent a great social cause.  Halwa Kadai was the humble venture of a small group of management students from SRM University Chennai, in Sept 2014. The first go-to-market venture of ‘Halwa Kadai’ was a stall they set up in the Retail Bazaar Entrepreneurs” program held in the University campus. Attracting good footfalls the maiden go-to-market initiative was a big hit and the team won the ‘Individual Marketer Award’. Customers who ate from the stall said that the taste was truly traditional hence the tag line “Traditional Taste of South India!”

The story of Halwa Kadai was not one of chance but one that happened because of the relentless efforts and the die- hard go-to-market attitude of its founder Moses Dharma Balan. Even as a young management graduate he saw the potential demand for this traditional delicacy. With his roots in the Tirunelveli town, he was only sure that bringing the Tirunelveli Halwa out of Tirunelveli will only enhance and increase its market.
